Mangal Sutra (Necklace with Black Beads)

Mangal Sutra i.e. necklace with black beads comprises one of the most important pieces of the bridal jewelry. It is tied by the groom around the neck of bride, as symbol of their union and is one of the rituals of wedding ceremony. It comprises of a string of black beads, with a gold or diamond pendant.

Maang Tikka

Maang Tikka is one of the important jewelries of the Indian bride and is worn on the center parting of the hair. It comprises of a string with one end hook on the hairs while the other hand is sits on the center forehead.

Shringar Patti

It is a kind of tiara adorning the forehead of the bride and is usually in gold. It is placed along hairline of the bride and has a circular plaque in the middle, which hangs below the hair line (on the forehead).

Necklace and Earrings

Bridal set forms one of the major parts of Indian bridal jewelry. It incorporates necklace and earrings. Bridal set should be complementary to the bridal dress.

Nose Ring or Nath

Don’t think of nose ring or nath the one woman generally wears. Bridal nath is very different and beautiful one. It is quite large in round shape and is studded with either gold or diamond generally and has a long chain attached to it. The chain is tied up in the hair of the bride, above the ear.

Bangles or Chudi

Bangles or Chudi are must for brides and are of gold or glass. They bring great show to the bride appearance.

Bracelet with Rings or Hathphool

Hathphool is a beautiful jewelry that embellishes the wrist as well as the fingers of the bride. It is a bracelet with one or the more strings attached to it, having rings at the other end.

Finger Rings or Anguthi

Fingering or Anguthi is a compulsorily worn jewelry by the bride. Don’t misunderstand it with engagement ring. This is another ring of gold or diamond which bride wears in one or more fingers.

Toe Ring or Bichhua

Bichhua is considered very essential in many states of India. It is of silver. It is also looked upon as one of the signs of a married woman and is worn in pairs in next to thumb finger of foot.

Anklet or Payal

Anklet or payal or pajeb is yet another very important jewelry for the bride. It adorns the ankle of a bride and is usually of silver. It has decorations of meenakari, kundan or beads.

Waist Band or Kamarband

Kamarband is tied around the waist of bride. In earlier times brides used to wear it. Though presently also it’s worn in few parts of India but not compulsory. It is a heavy piece of jewelry and is meant to support the wedding dress and keep it in place.
